Vorrest Sylvester Sprague

VORREST SYLVESTER SPRAGUE, 94, of Sidney, passed away at 9:11 A.M. Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Heritage Center in Minster. He was born on November 27, 1926 in Champaign County, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph and Iva (Snider) Sprague.

On September 3, 1950 he married the former Patricia Lee Wells, who survives him along with four children, Krista Miller of Sidney, Lee (Cheryl) Sprague of Dayton, Holly (Jeff) Fannon and David (Donna) Sprague, both of Sidney; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Barlow of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marvalene "Mivi" Given; and three brothers-in-law, Thomas Given, Lyle Barlow and Lester Wells.

Vorrest was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WWII. He was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post 217 and the Sidney VFW. He was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He served as the church organist for 13 years and volunteered as a pianist for church services at Fair Haven on numerous occasions. Vorrest was passionate about music, especially big band and jazz. He enjoyed playing, listening and appreciated any time his grandkids took a liking to it. Throughout his life Vorrest enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was very handy and could fix about anything. He was a talented woodworker and made many furniture pieces for family and friends that are sure to be enjoyed for years to come.

In keeping with Vorrest's wishes, no public services will be held. His final resting place will be at Cedar Point Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
