Virginia Gene “Jinny” (Moon) Shreves died on February 15, 2026, at home surrounded by loved ones.
Jinny was born to the late Jesse and Genevieve (Stahler) Moon on April 12, 1931. She grew up on the Stahler family farm just outside of Maplewood before her family moved into Sidney. Jinny was one of four children, preceded in death by her sister Shirley (late Kent) Kelso, and survived by her sister Linda (late Charlie) Bridges and brother Bruce (Cathy) Moon.
Jinny went to Sidney High School, where she met many of her lifelong friends and graduated in 1949. On December 10th, 1950, she married the love of her life, the late Marvin Gene Shreves.
Jinny and Marvin went on to build an incredible life filled with love and cherished memories. They raised and leave behind four children: Barri (Dennis) Grandey, Terri (Tom) Cooper, Jeff (Nancy) Shreves, and Joe (Diana) Shreves; along with 11 grandchildren: Travis (Heather) Cooper, Marc (Betsy) Shreves, Shelly (Greg) Coverstone, Traci (Dave) Milanese, Carri (David) Jones, Nicki (Chad) New, Tiffany (Matt) Jarrells, Amber (Chris) Bucio, Corey (Whitney) Shreves, Janel (Matt) Lieber, and Alison (Joe) Hamilton. Their legacy continues with 37 great-grandchildren, one of whom preceded her in death, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Jinny was a member of Sidney First Methodist Church and was always quick to volunteer, being the hands and feet of Jesus. From her many years serving the youth at Tar Hollow Camp, singing in the choir, to helping create the Autumn Leaves Luncheon and the ever-famous apple dumplings to help fund missions through women’s ministry, Jinny faithfully served. She also spent many years volunteering with the Wilson Auxiliary, where she would spend afternoons in her pink coat greeting at the front desk and working in the gift shop. She was also a very proud member of the Old Biddies Club.
Jinny and Marvin loved to entertain. Jinny had the incredible ability to make feeding a crowd an art form, and Marvin never lacked in bringing the entertainment. Their lives were built around faith, family, and sharing their passion of boating on the Old Crow at Lake Cumberland with everyone they met. The Old Crow welcomed four generations and many family and friends along the way.
When Jinny wasn’t serving or boating, she was busy planning the next adventure for the family. She loved loading everyone up for fun road trips, cruises, or flights halfway around the world. You could always count on it including lots of laughter, stories for decades, and of course a family shirt that she had spent weeks hand-sewing.
Jinny may have left this world, but we rejoice knowing she is back home seeing Jesus, Marvin, and oh so many friends. The family will celebrate Jinny’s life at Sidney First Methodist Church, located at 230 E. Poplar St., Sidney, Ohio, on Sunday, March 1, 2026 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., with the service to start at 3:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made to The Shelby County Compassionate Care, Wilson Health Hospice, or Sidney First Methodist Church. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to the family at (www.cromesfh.com).
