VENLIN EUGENE "GENE" TAYLOR, 87, of Sidney, passed away at 12:57 P.M. Monday, September 19, 2022 at Versailles Rehab and Health Care Center. He was born on December 11, 1934 in Harlan, Kentucky, the son of the late William Gillis and Dora Olene (Lowrimore) Taylor.
Gene is survived by two daughters, Debra Taylor and Kimberly Jess, both of Sidney; four grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Taylor, Ryan (Elizabeth O'Hair) Walker, Jessie (Michelle) Kizer, and Chase (Kristin) Kizer; fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Peggy Johnson; and his longtime companion, Virginia Decker. He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Taylor; and one brother, Melvin Taylor.
Gene was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served during the Korean War on the USS Hornet. Gene was retired from LeRoi Dresser where he spent most of his working career as a welder. He was a member of the Sidney American Legion Post 217 and the Sidney VFW. Anyone who knew Gene knew he loved to drive his car and ride his scooter. He was a member of First Christian Church in Sidney. Gene will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 23, 2022 at 1:30 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Rev. Philip K. Chilcote officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Point Cemetery.
