Thomas "Tom" Bender Obituary

THOMAS “TOM” BERNARD BENDER, 75, of Sidney passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023 at 11:38 AM at his residence. He was born on October 29, 1947 in Piqua, Ohio, the son of the late Aloysius and Clara (Francis) Bender. On August 22, 1970, Thomas married the former Donna Moore, who survives.

He is survived by three children, Amy (Gary) Schultz of Sidney, Kristina (Brad) Nuss of Anna and Natalie (Alan) Stewart of Sidney; seven grandchildren, Logan, Grant, Conner, Carter, Corbin, Parker, and Lindan; seven siblings, Carol Meyer of Sidney, Leo (Nancy) Bender of Tennessee, Louis (Diane) Bender of Wapakoneta, Phyllis (Tom) DeVelvis of Sidney, Kathy (Larry) Martin of Sidney, Gerry Bender of Ft. Loramie, and Carl (Jeanette) Bender of Sidney; three brother-in-laws, Gerald Billing, Gary Moore, and Terry (Debbie) Moore; two sister-in-laws, Susie Bender and Marsha Pritchard. Tom was preceded in death by three siblings, Robert Bender, Rosalie Billing and Susie Bender.

Mr. Bender was the owner of Carriage Corner Cars & Trucks. In addition, he worked for Seger Trucking before retirement. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Tom touched many people’s lives. He never met a stranger and was always willing to teach someone something that he knew. He adored his family and was loved deeply by them as well. His grandkids were his world. Most people that knew Tom were aware of his strong passion for anything with a motor. He was an avid car collector and attended many cruise-ins in his lifetime. One of his favorite hobbies was tinkering on cars, and he could fix just about anything. He even built a race car that he drag raced for many years. Additionally, Tom enjoyed the performing arts in his younger years and participated in shows with Sidney Dance Company as well as in Charity League’s Red Glove Revue. He also coached girls’ softball for Sidney Electric and Sidney Fast pitch. He is a member of Mt. Tabor Church of God in DeGraff and loved the Lord greatly.
