Steven Ray Shaffer

STEVEN RAY SHAFFER, age 71 of Sidney, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 10:30 PM at his home, surrounded by his entire family. He was born on March 9, 1953, in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Donald and Sarah (Middleton) Shaffer. 

On May 20, 1978, Steve married Cindy (Thompson) who survives along with their two children: Andrew (Autumn Pearl) Shaffer of Grand Isle, VT, and Stacy (Matthew) Frey of Ft. Loramie, four grandchildren: Weston and Winter Shaffer, Callie and Kason Frey, twin-brother, Michael (Patti) Shaffer of Sidney, sister, Becky (Rick) Ewing of Sidney, and mother-in-law, Diane Thompson of Sidney. He was preceded in death by brother, David Shaffer, and father-in-law, Donald Thompson. 

Mr. Shaffer was a Sidney High School Graduate class of 1971. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University. Following graduation, he worked at Stolle Corporation for 20 years, and later as President/Co-Owner of Shaffer Metal Fab in Sidney before retiring in 2019. 

Steve enjoyed his days at their 2nd home at Indian Lake boating and spending time on the patio. He also loved rooting on The Ohio State Buckeyes and playing cards with friends. In his spare time he cherished playing Grandpa and cheering on his grandkids in all of their sports and activities. 

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Randy Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. 

Memorials may be made to Indian Lake Boaters Helping Boaters and Wilson Health Hospice.
