STEVEN "STEVE" H. KEEFER, 66, of Sidney passed away at 10:15pm on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit of Miami County in Troy; after a brief private battle with cancer. Steven was born on July 17, 1953 in Salem, Ohio to the late Harold and Jean (Fitzpatrick) Keefer. Steve married his partner in crime Mary Beth Aust on February 13th, 1981, recently celebrating their 39th Anniversary.
Steve is survived by two of his siblings, Patrick Keefer and Karen Humphreys both of Salem. He was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Keefer.
Steve retired from Dick Lavy Trucking after working for more than 20 years as a Dispatcher. In his early years Steve obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Kent State where he met Mary Beth.
Steve was known to many as "Gypsy Rover" the Father of the "Ramblin' Rovers" a local band and Rendezvousing Family. He touched countless lives through his gift of musical talent and storytelling. Steve loved to play music alone or to "practice" with band and anyone who showed an interest, especially around a camp fire. Steve and Mary Beth have been staples of local historical encampments such as Fort Rowdy and Piqua Heritage Festival, and have enjoyed primitive camping for over 32 years
Steve loved life and did not wish to be remembered in a funeral home. In honoring his wishes, his body will be cremated and a "Celebration of Life" will occur for family and friends at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave Sidney. Condolences may be expressed to the Keefer family at our website, www.cromesfh.com
