Steven Bogart Obituary

STEVEN K. BOGART passed on Sunday, December 20 in the year of our Lord 2020, after being in Wilson Health for several days due to complications from a fall in his home. Upon admission he also tested positive for Covid 19.

Steve was born to Kenneth and Irma Bogart (both deceased) on November 24, 1944, in Sidney where he remained a lifelong resident. On October 21, 1972 he married the love of his life Virginia Alice Houser, who preceded him in death in July of 2011.

Familial survivors include his sister Suzy (Lucas), niece Melissa (Lucas) and her son Shiloh, along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also surviving him are sisters-in-law Susan (Houser) Alexander and Sylvia (Houser) Carey and husbands, as well as nieces Stephanie (Perrine) Garber, Beth Jo Ann Perrine and Amy (Alexander) Williams and nephews Vince Perrine and Michael Alexander. Sister-in-law Dorothy Houser is predeceased.

A willing and dedicated worker, Steve was employed for many years at Amos Press. After retirement from there he worked part time in the fast-food industry before becoming a full-time employee at Sidney Wal-Mart until his second retirement.

Retired and living alone and also physically disabled, Steve gravitated to Fair Haven Adult Day Care Center. The helpful and caring staff there made him welcome and relieved any anxieties about daily tasks of living.

John Burnside was an invaluable friend to him, providing him with rides to appointments, dog sitting, home maintenance and his companionship--all from the goodness of his heart.

Always one to devote his spare time to his church, Connection Point Church of God in Sidney, Steve became an even more active member after retirement. He was always the first to volunteer for projects and community activities such as Relay for Life, Teen Center, and ceremonial parades and food booths. And of course he never missed a Sunday service. He was a kind, joyous, and happy man who loved being around people. His church became a home for him, a safe harbor filled with people who cared for him unconditionally with Christian kindness and respected his dedicated efforts.
