Sarah Ruth (Middleton) Shaffer

SARAH RUTH (MIDDLETON) SHAFFER, 93, of Sidney passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 6:55 PM at Ohio Hospice of Miami County Inpatient Unit surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 24, 1930 in St. Paris, Ohio. Sarah was the daughter of the late Don and Alta (Halterman) Middleton. On November 25, 1948 she married Donald R. Shaffer.

She is survived by two sons, Mike (Patti) Shaffer and Steve (Cindy) Shaffer and daughter, Becky (Rick) Ewing all of Sidney. Mrs. Shaffer had seven grandchildren, Renee (Jason) Szymanski, Tim Shaffer, Andy Shaffer, Lindsay (Matt) Wyan, Erica Ewing, Stacy (Matt) Frey and Ryan (Susan) Shaffer. Also surviving are twelve great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald R. Shaffer, son, David R. Shaffer, granddaughter, Angela Shaffer and three brothers, stillborn Franklin, Cliff and Art Middleton.

Mrs. Shaffer began working as a bookkeeper helping in the family business at Middleton Market. She also was office manager at Larger Construction Co. and finished her career as a real estate agent for Emerson Wagner Realty Co. Sarah was a member of First Christian Church of Sidney and enjoyed spending time with her church friends. She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, AM Vets Ladies Auxiliary and the Sidney Moose Club. Sarah and Don also enjoyed traveling to Florida every year and spending summers at Indian Lake. Most of all she enjoyed the precious times she spent with her family.  

Funeral Services will be held Thursday April 6, 2023 at 12 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave Sidney with Pastor Kris Geise officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson, Ohio. Friends may visit from 10 AM up until time of service at the funeral home. The family would like to express our sincere thank you to the entire staff at Ohio Hospice of Miami County for their care and compassion for mom, grandma and great grandma.
