Ruth (Thornsberry) Hagelberger

RUTH HAGELBERGER, 84 of Anna, passed away Monday, January 12, 2026, at 3:05 AM at Ohio Living Dorothy Love. She was born on August 30, 1941, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, the daughter of the late John and Nora (Hall) Thornsberry.

On March 11, 1967 Ruth married Larry Hagelberger who survives along with their two children: Beth (Kenny) Kovacs, and John (fiancé Patti Webster) Hagelberger both of Anna, one sister, Ella Mae Michael of Greenville, five grandchildren: Hollie (Adam), Jake (Simone), Ben, Lauren, and Faith, one great-grandson, Samuel, niece, Krista (Greg) Meyer, and many more nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five siblings: Rosevelt “Wordy”, Jim, Arlin, Don, and Margie Thornsberry.

Ruth graduated from Wheelwright High School in Kentucky in1960. She furthered her education, earning her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Miami University. She went on to teach elementary in the Anna and Botkins schools, and later as a substitute teacher throughout the Shelby County School District.

Ruth had a heart of gold and put everyone first before herself. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, camping, reading and collecting cookbooks, shopping, making large holiday meals for family, and attending school functions for her kids and grandkids. She was a member of Anna United Methodist Church where she helped at the annual Thanksgiving meal and was famous for her German chocolate cake.

Funeral Services for Ruth will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Anna United Methodist Church with Pastor RJ Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery in Swanders. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
