RUTH ROSE (LOY) BRAUN, 95, of Botkins, Ohio, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023, at Randall Residence of Tipp City. She was born on May 29, 1928, in Kettlersville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Walter and Laura (Sollmann) Loy. On June 18, 1950, Ruth married Robert “Bob” Braun, who preceded her in death.
Ruth is survived by four children, Lee (Marcy) Braun of Botkins, Ohio, Lynne (Jose) Lopez of West Milton, Ohio, Donna (Jeff) Slyman of Tipp City, Ohio and Jennifer (Mike) Ambos of Anna, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Sarah (Terry) Dirksen, Sam (Stacy) Braun, Sybil (Derek) Koenig, Jay (Jessica) Lopez, Justin (Ashley) Lopez, Janelle Lopez, Chad (Nikki) Slyman, Joel (Katelyn) Slyman, Michaela and Zach Ambos; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two siblings, Marilyn North of Pennsylvania and Doris Westerbeck of Indiana and sister in law, Linda Braun. Ruth was preceded in death by son, Jeffrey Braun, brother and sister in law, Warren (Jeanne) Loy, sister and brother in law, Kay (George) Kratt, sister in law and brother in law, Dorothy (Kenneth) Quellhorst, sister in law and brother in law, Joan (Richard) Mitchell, and brother in laws James North, Robert Westerbeck and John Braun.
Ruth was an Anna High School alumnus. She was a mother to her five children and worked as the secretary at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Botkins, Ohio, for several years. She was a member of the Botkins Community Club, Lady’s Circle at St. Paul Lutheran Church, a 4-H sewing advisor and a volunteer of the Wilson Health Auxiliary.
In addition to all of Ruth’s community activities, she enjoyed playing cards and games, watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports and show their animals at the fair, playing the piano and singing, attending musical theater performances and a crossword fanatic. In her younger years, she was a vocalist for many weddings. She was well known for her old-fashioned cream pies and enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. She was an avid fan of the Ohio State University football and basketball teams and could not be bothered during the games.
Funeral Services will be held Friday October 6, 2023, at 12 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church 301 E. State St Botkins, OH 45306 with Rev. Michael Althauser officiating. Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen, Ohio. Friends may visit from 10 AM until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wilson Health Auxiliary. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave Sidney.
