ROSALEE ANDERSON, age 103 of Sidney, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023, at 9:42 AM at Ohio Living Dorothy Love. She was born on February 28, 1920, in Elyria, Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Misiaszek) Boron. On November 12, 1949, she married Thomas F. Anderson who preceded her in death May 26, 2008.
She is survived by son, Dave (Theresa) Anderson of Dayton, OH, daughter, Barbara Dillon of Dublin, OH, three grandchildren: Lauren Dillon, Christopher Anderson, and Catherine (Bill) Wheeler, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, one brother, and son-in-law, Greg Dillon.
Rosalee was one of six children whose parents emigrated from Poland in the early 1900’s. They made their way to Elyria with the promise of jobs and a supportive Polish community. They embraced their new country and worked hard to make sure all their children received an education. Rosalee graduated from Elyria High School in 1938 and from Oberlin School of Commerce. She took the civil service test at the start of the war and was offered a job at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Arriving in Dayton by train she rented a room at the YWCA before moving into a house with eight other women from the base. During this time she met Tom who was working in Dayton following his service in the Army. They married in 1949 and moved to Sidney, Tom’s hometown. While raising their two children Rosalee was involved in both boy scouts and girl scouts. She spent 20 years working at the Ohio Dept of Transportation, District 7 in Sidney. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and knitting and as a family they spent their summers sailing at Indian Lake. She remained very close to her family in Elyria and looked forward to their visits.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Fr. Andrew Reckers officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
