RONALD E. LECKEY, age 87 of Sidney, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at 1:26 AM at Wilson Health. He was born on March 5, 1934 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Glen Bernard and Eva Estella (Knoblaugh) Leckey.
In October of 1954 Ronald first married Norma Jean (Cotinger) who preceded him in death February 4, 1999. On July 4, 2004 he married Carol Ann George-McMillen who survives along with one son, Ralph David Leckey of Sidney, step-children, Lori Ann (John) Hinkle of Sidney, James Edward George of Montana, and Timothy Allen George of Jasper, GA, sisters, Glenna Mae Welch of Sidney, and Brenda Faye (Tim) Ludwig of Sidney, step-grandchildren, Katherine, Pearl, Dixie, Chelsea, Ashley, and T.J, and several step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant son, Donald Eugene Leckey, brother, Gerald Lee Leckey, and brother-in-law, Chester Welch.
Mr. Leckey attended Sidney High School. In 1950 he started working for the City of Sidney water department, followed by various other positions. He then worked in housing maintenance for Buckeye Terrace working his way up to management. During his time at Buckeye Terrace he organized many different activities for the children in the surrounding area. From housing he continued his career in management for the City Building. He was instrumental in the establishment of Dial-A-Ride in Sidney, and was the Director of Operations, as well as manager for the City of Sidney Service Center, retiring in 1984.
Ronald was an avid racer of homing pigeons, having won many races with his champion birds. He was a founding member of the Miami Valley Sports Club, serving in most offices during his 59-year membership.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Rev. Philip K. Chilcote officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 7 PM.
