He was born on December 6, 1924, in Champaign County, the son of the late Cleo C. and Gertrude (Weissinger) Sargeant.  On December 3, 1944 he married Thelma B. Middleton, who preceded him in death on September 2, 2014.

He is survived by two daughters, Marsha Jarvis and Lynn (Bruce) Lindsey of Sidney; four grandchildren, Chris (wife Natalie) Jarvis, Ryan Jarvis, Kelsey (husband Al) Ervin, and Jesse (wife Alisha) Lindsey; and five great-grandchildren:  Great Granddaughters Porter, Sutton and Tatum Ervin and Great Grandsons Benton and Brewer Lindsey, and two foster grandchildren Raynae (Watercutter) Williams and Amy Watercutter.

Preceding him in death was a grandson, Stephen Lindsey; foster daughter Michele Randall; three brothers, Leonard, Herman,  John Sargeant, and one sister, Shirley Draper.

Mr. Sargeant graduated in 1942 from Green Township High School in Plattsville, which is now a part of the Fairlawn school district.  In 1997 the Robert and Thelma Sargeant Scholarship Fund was established to annually assist Fairlawn graduates and college students. This is a perpetual fund.  Band uniforms and instruments have also been donated. In 2003, Robert was inducted into the Fairlawn Hall of Honor.

Robert served three years in the Army and Air Force during WWII in the European Theater.   He looked back on those years as very important years of his life and as a result sponsored the Army flag and the fountain in Veteran's park on Marco Island. Robert and Thelma were also major sponsors of the Marco Island Historical Museum.

He was the original founder of Sidney Tool & Die Inc in 1954 and was soon after joined by his brother, John, as an equal business partner. The company later was joined by a third business partner, Donald Bensman. Together the three co-owners took part in establishing: Sidco Industrties, SMT Industries, Sidney Pattern Works, Sidney Warehousing, Inc., Tower Steel, Inc., Gateway Center Developments Ltd., H.B. Products and Bensar Developments Co.

Robert was very active with the local community activities and was involved with: Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Lions Club, Miami Valley Hospital Planning Council, "Make It Happen-Sidney", and Bank One (Chase) Sidney.  He was a life member of the Shelby County Deer Hunters Assn. and had been a member of Lions Club until his passing. In 2006, Robert received the Chamber of Commerce Zenith award for his outstanding service to the community. The Sargeants were primary donors to the Hospice suites at Dorothy Love in 2008.

On November 2019 the Bob Sargeant & Family Shelby County Animal Center & Adoption Center had it's ribbon cutting ceremony to which Bob was the primary sponsor.

Robert enjoyed fishing, motor home travel and winters in Marco Island, Florida. He also enjoyed worldwide travel, playing cards, backgammon and Sudoku on his iPad.   He loved introducing his beloved Florida mangoes to people.

Immediate family will attend a private burial at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco.
