RICHARD LOUIS "DICK" ZIMPHER, 92, of Sidney, passed away at 7:59 P.M. Friday, September 10, 2021 at Troy Hospital. He was born on June 17, 1929 in Piqua, Ohio, the son of the late Raymond and Jeanette (Edwards) Zimpher.
On April 2, 1949 he married the former Phyllis Marie Smart, who survives along with their three daughters, Diane (Larry) Alexander, Donna (Bill) Ankney, and Denise (Jon) Palmer, all three of Sidney; four grandchildren, Brienne (Doug) Martin, Derek (Amanda) Ankney, Collin Palmer and Cole (Alexis) Palmer; five great-grandchildren, McKenna, Thad and Kaitlyn Martin, Caden Williams and Salara Schmidt-Palmer; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Zimpher and two sisters, Norma Westerveld and Juanita Kaminski.
Dick was a career electrician. He began by working for his father's business, Zimpher Electric and continued afterwards as a self-employed electrician for many years. He eventually retired from Sidney City Schools.
Dick was a member of the Port Jefferson Masonic Lodge and member of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed collecting toy tractors, anything International, and he loved going to auctions. Dick's family was his greatest joy. He regularly doted on his grandchildren and attended as many of their sporting events and activities as he could. Dick was a devoted husband of more than 72 years, and a loving father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.
A Private Graveside Service will be held for the family at Glen Cemetery in Port Jefferson. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
