Richard "Dick" Roth Obituary

RICHARD C. “DICK” ROTH, 93, of Sidney, passed away at 11:08 A.M. Tuesday, January 14, 2025. He was born on November 17, 1931 in Wapakoneta, Ohio , the son of the late Clarence and Amelia (Elsass) Roth. He was first married to Katherine JoAn Packard, who preceded him in death after 44 years of marriage.

On March 2, 2002 he married Marianna Roth, who survives him along with five children, Cheri Epperson of Sidney, Philip (Veronica) Roth of Krum, TX, Eileen (Jack) Hildebrand of Amarillo, TX, Christopher (Rosanne) Roth of Boston, MA, and Janet (Lodrick) Williams of Palmer, AK; thirteen grandchildren, Nate Epperson, Robert Hildebrand, Cecil Roth, Alexander Roth, Kathryn Roth, Kelly Williams, Lodrick Jr. (Kaylee) Williams, Colin (Kathrine) Williams, Melita (Shawn) Cool, Alyssa (Jared) Price, Stuart Roth, Caitlin Bronson, and Zachary (Kylie) Roth; and ten great-grandchildren, Gabriel Cool, Elijah Cool, Abraham Cool, Vivian Roth Price, Daphne Roth Price, Norma Peach Roth Price, Roscoe Roth, Mona Roth, Otto Williams, and Thatcher Williams. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Anthony Hildebrand; and one sister, Doris Weakland.

Dick was a distinguished retired officer of the United States Air Force, having served with honor for 20 years. Throughout his military career, he earned notable accolades, including the Bronze Star Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for Texas Instruments. Dick was highly educated, holding degrees from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, the University of Washington, and the University of Michigan. A lifelong Catholic, he was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. In his free time, Dick enjoyed playing cards, solving sudoku puzzles, and cherishing moments with his beloved K-9 companion, Budgie. He had a passion for research and writing, recently dedicating time to exploring the complexities of prime numbers. Above all, Dick treasured his family and the time spent with them. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Fr. Andrew Reckers officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:15 A.M. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home. Dick’s final resting place will be at Graceland Cemetery.
