Rebecca Diane (Russell) Richardson

Rebecca Diane "Becky" Richardson, age 80, of Urbana passed away on May 24, 2026, at Springfield Regional Medical Center.  She was born on June 18, 1945, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Ralph “Si” C. and Ruth (McNeil) Russell.

Becky was a 1963 graduate of Sidney High School. Following high school, she attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. Afterwards, she went on to earn a master’s degree from Wright State University.

Becky was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She was also a loyal friend. She devoted her career to education, spending over 30 years teaching in Indiana and Ohio, primarily in elementary education. She retired from Urbana City Schools in 2013 after teaching there for more than 25 years.

She enjoyed reading, listening to music (especially Barry Manilow, Cher and Johnny Mathis), tending to her flowers, chatting with her family and friends and taking care of her cat, Piper. Through her life and her work, she made a positive impact that will live on for generations through her family, friends and community.

Becky is survived by three children, Kristopher (Kathleen) Richardson, Michele (Wil) Teague and Megan Richardson; and two granddaughters (Quinlan and Eibhlin Teague).

Becky was preceded in death by her parents; her brother (James); and her husband of more than 50 years (Don).

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Pearl Cemetery with Randy Reed officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
