Phyllis Jeanette Rapp (99), formerly of Sidney died on February 21, 2024 in Tucson, Arizona, where she had lived since 2006. She was born on July 12, 1924 in Houston, Ohio, the daughter of the late James B. and Marie (Griffis) Royon. She married William B. Rapp on June 20, 1946. He preceded her in death in 2008.
Surviving are her two sons, James W. Rapp (Patricia) of Tucson, Arizona, and Gary D. Rapp (Cynthia) of Louisburg, North Carolina.; four grandchildren, Laurie Rapp Stilin and Lisa Rapp Tierney, Leah and James Rapp; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Phyllis graduated from Sidney High School in 1942 and received an associate degree from Ohio University. While there she was initiated into the Zeta Chapter of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
She was the secretary to the superintendent of the Sidney City Schools for 30 years. She was a life-long member of the Sidney First United Methodist Church and active in its Blanche Wilhide Circle. She belonged to the Sidney Gateway Squares square dance club and other informal organizations. She served at various times as the president of the local Beta Delta Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, the Sidney Book and Travel Club, the former Women's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church and as the regent of the Lewis Boyer Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
A memorial service to celebrate the lives of Phyllis and her late husband, Bill, will be at the Sidney First Methodist Church on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney First Methodist Church, the Amos Memorial Library or to a charity of the donor's choice.
