Paul Demastus Obituary

Paul Lawrence Demastus, Sr. passed away on Friday, 29 December 2023 at his home in Sidney, Ohio at the age of 82. He was born in West Virginia on 16 July 1941 to Paul and Floradell Demastus, who preceded him in death. Paul is survived by the love of his life Jean, whom he married on 10 September 1977. Together they share 5 children, Teri Ruple of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Paul Jr. (Diana) of Lavaca, Arkansas, Dana Terry of Alma, Arkansas, Rebecca Gomez (Kino) of Van Buren, Arkansas, and Dr. Amy Stoots (Kevin) of Sidney, Ohio; 2 brothers, Claude and David Demastus, and a sister, Linda Poling; grandchildren Taylor Ruple, Tanner Ruple (Chloe), Madison Terry, Courtney Demastus, Coren Patterson (Tyler), and Andrew Gomez; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and a nephew. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by an infant son, a sister, Delores Myers, and 2 grandsons, Dalton Gomez, and Phillip Demastus.

Although Paul passed away in Ohio, he was forever an Arkansas guy at heart. He was a Vietnam Veteran, spending 20 years in the U. S. Army (1958- 1978). Upon retirement, he and his family moved to Alma, Arkansas, where he retired from the City of Alma Water Department in 2003. Paul would be tasked with shutting off water for those late on payment but would instead find a way to pay their bill to avoid leaving someone without water. He was a kind man who loved his small community and the people he knew. He was also a huge fan of Wal-Mart, where an almost daily outing gave him the socialization he loved. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. We love you, Poppy.
