Neil "Sparky" E. Staley, Sr.

NEIL E. “SPARKY” STALEY, SR., age 86 of Sidney, Ohio passed away at 9 A.M. April 28, 2024 at Fair Haven Shelby County Home.  Neil was born July 17, 1937 in Piqua, Ohio, son of the late Kenneth and Mary (Vogler) Staley. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1956.  Neil was an electrician for General Motors for many years. After retiring, he farmed his land and worked at local car dealerships in finance departments.  Neil was involved in Boy Scouts, volunteering his time for 32 years. He had been a member of the Port Jefferson Shriners since 1994 and transported children with medical needs to hospitals in Louisville, Cincinnati, and Chicago. In his later years he enjoyed making pens and painting, gifting his creations to everyone he cared about.

Neil was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Betty “Jeannie” Staley and his son, Neil E. Staley, Jr. Neil is survived by his daughters Marcia (Dan) Myers, Cheryl (Brent) Phillips, Allison (Anthony) Hereld; son, Jason (Tegan) Staley; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jessica) Frye, Nick Staley, Wendi (Tim) Saintignon, Corey Myers, Natalie Staley, Luke Yerkey, Chance Hereld, Drew (Dylan Wintrow) Hereld, Mason Hereld, Rowan Staley; great-grandchildren, Reed and Elizabeth Frye, Vivian Hereld, and Alister Wintrow; as well as many other family members and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Pastor John Butts officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M., during which a Masonic service will be held at 6:45 P.M. A committal service at Glen Cemetery will be held on a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wilson Hospice.
