Nancy Maurer Obituary

Nancy Jane (Grillot) Maurer, age 71 of Botkins, was born on December 31, 1951 the 8th daughter of the late Joseph O. & Mary A. (Hemmelgarn) Grillot.  Nancy was a big Beatles fan and amazingly, took her very last breath at the end of “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” while family was doing just that: holding her hands on October 12, 2023, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.  She is survived by the best siblings she could have dreamed of: Annette (dec.) & Jerry Goldschmidt of Maryland, Pat & Ron Francis of Sidney, Mary Jo (dec.) & Bob Enneking of Sidney, Carol & Bob (dec.) Huecker of Minster, Louise (dec.) & Ray Koenig of Sidney, Joan (dec.) & Mike Donauer of Tipp City, and Barbara & Dan Creagan of Cornwall, NY.  She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Lynn Michael Maurer, DVM and their three children: Hillary Maurer (Patrick Peterson) of Portland, OR, Carly (Lucas) Greve of Botkins, and Abbey (Matt) Bensman of Anna.  She has 6 lovely grandchildren: Jacob, Madison, & Courtney Greve, and Cecilia, Hazel, & Adrienne Bensman.  Nancy is also survived by her Brazilian exchange student daughter, Candi (Karlo) Kawamura and their daughters, Sophie & Louise.  She is also survived by her in-laws: Deb (Tom) Bauer of Ottawa, Colleen (Frank) Blanda of Nashua, NH, Lisa (Bill) Hoewischer of Hilliard, & Shelly Looby of Canton.

Nancy graduated from Russia High School in 1969 and Miami University Oxford in 1973 with a Bachelor’s degree in education.  She taught at various schools and really found her niche in teaching English and American cooking to Japanese students.  She enjoyed many things in life including cooking, gardening, refinishing furniture, puzzles, and most of all spoiling her grandkids.  Nancy was an avid reader and card player.  She loved to laugh and was so proud of her family and friends, nieces and nephews.  She treasured them all.  Nancy was a volunteer of many Botkins organizations and at FISH.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Botkins.  Nancy hopes that you will remember her with a smile.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date per the family’s request. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
