NANCY L. DEAM, 81, of Sidney passed away at 7:27 A.M. Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Landings of Sidney. She was born on February 23, 1942 in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Jackson) Brelsford. On April 2, 1966 she married James E. Deam, who preceded her in death on June 14, 2020.
Nancy is survived by two children, Jana (Tom) Potts of Sidney, and Jason (Ginny) Deam of Newark, OH; and three grandchildren, Ethan, Brennan, and Colin Potts. She was preceded in death by two children who died at birth, twins, Kathi Jo and Kelli Jo.
Nancy was a graduate of Sidney High School, class of 1960. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Miami University. Nancy began her teaching career in Sidney City Schools as a full-time teacher before later becoming a substitute teacher. After many years of teaching, in 1990 Nancy began working as a vision therapist for Primary Eyecare in Sidney until she retired.
Nancy was a member and past president of Charity League, past member of Shakespeare Book Club, long-time member of Sidney First Methodist Church Choir, and past member and board member of the Senior Center of Sidney Shelby County.
Nancy loved being “Mimi” to her three grandsons and enjoyed cheering them on at their various sporting events. In addition, she was an avid bridge player and reader. Together, Jim and Nancy especially enjoyed traveling during their retirement years and spending time on Sanibel Island, FL in the winter.
Nancy was a lifelong member of Sidney First Methodist Church, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2023 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Eileen Hix and Rev. Dr. David Chivington officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the time of service. A private family graveside service will follow at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sidney First Methodist Church or Hospice of Miami County in Nancy’s memory. Condolences may be expressed to the family at, www.cromesfh.com
