Michael Weber Obituary

Michael Franklin Weber, 82 of Port Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 5:40 p.m.  Weber was born on February 7, 1943, in Sidney, Ohio, son of the late Tyra Franklin Weber and Julia (Yeager) Weber.  On March 3, 1967, Weber married Ann Harvey who still survives along with daughter Julie (Brent) Meyer of Botkins, son James (Eric Scott) Weber of DeGraff, two grandsons Memphis and Hudson Meyer, sisters Christine Weber of Sidney and Candy (Terry) Sharp and brother Eric Weber.  He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother:  Carolyn Allen & Kathleen Lantis and Frank Weber.

Served time at Sidney High School.  In 1961, Weber joined the U.S. NAVY; was assigned to helicopter anti-submarine squadron three; worked on the flight decks for the U.S.S. Intrepid and U.S.S. Wasp; was on the Cuban Blockade during the Cuba Missile Crisis; and helped on the recovery mission of Astronaut Scott Carpenter.  Weber drove semi-trucks for 42 years, beginning at Sidney Truck and retiring from Whiteline Express.   Weber had a passion for flying N8448U.  He enjoyed flying to breakfast with his pilot friends “The Breakfast Club”.  He was an avid cruiser to the Caribbean, with Key West and St. Maarten being favorites.   Weber was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sidney American Legion, AMVETS, VFW, and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

After retiring, Weber attempted to play golf.  He enjoyed feeding the squirrels, birds, (especially hummingbirds) at home, visits to the Eagles with friends to play darts, and enjoyed watching it snow from his couch instead of being in a semi.  His humor and sarcasm will deeply be missed, but his teachings and knowledge will carry on forever.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Randy Reed officiating.  Family will receive friends 11:00 AM until the time of service.  Memorials may be made to Perry Port Salem Rescue, Sidney American Legion, or Sidney Fraternal Order of Eagles.
