MARY JANE STRATTON, 86, of Sidney, passed away at 8:10 P.M. Friday, August 25, 2023 at Ohio Living Dorothy Love. She was born on October 31, 1936 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, the daughter of the late Vennard E. and O. Bernice (Gross) Vorhees.
Mary Jane is survived by two sons, Steven (Heidi) Stratton of Sugar Land, TX, and Scott (Jennifer) Stratton of Sidney; three grandchildren, Katie Stratton, Kyla (Danny) Neth, and Dusty Stratton; and seven great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Willow, Zander, Kohen, Ansley, Brantley, and Wimberley. She was also blessed by extended family, Gregg (Beckie) Freytag, Angelina (Scott) LeBlanc, Amber (Joe) Gorney and children, Brandon (Brittney) Grajeda and children, and Sue Kolling.
Mary Jane most recently worked for Kirk Nationalease before retiring. Prior to that she worked for North American Aviation in Columbus, General Highway Express, and her first job was with Linn’s Weekly Stamp News. Mary Jane was a graduate of Sidney High School, class of 1954 and of Columbus Business University, class of 1963. She was a past worthy advisor of Rainbow Girls and granted the Grand Cross of Color in 1956, a past president and treasurer of Sidney Women’s Bowling Association where she earned the secretary of the year award, member of the Holiday Belles Bowling League for 31 years, Pleaides Chapter #298 O&S for 65 years, member of Sidney Football Moms and Vespa Quarterback Club, member of Sidney American Legion Auxiliary Post 217 and Shelby County Senior Center member. Mary Jane was a faithful member of Sidney First United Methodist Church for 50 years. She was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and especially the Sidney High Yellow Jackets - “she was their #1 fan.” Mary Jane enjoyed the company of her cat Harley, and most of all she loved her family and spending time with each and every one of them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 10 A.M. with Rev. Eileen Hix officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Wapakoneta, Ohio. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Sidney Athletic Boosters in Mary Jane’s memory.
