Martha Ahrens Obituary

MARTHA ANN AHRENS, age 78 of Sidney, passed away Friday, October 25, 2024, at 8:00 AM at Fair Haven Shelby County Home. She was born on October 5, 1946, in Greenville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Cletus and Cecelia (Subler) Simon. On July 24, 1965, she married her husband of 50 years, Dennis Norbert Ahrens who preceded her in death August 16, 2015.

Marty is survived by three children: Brenda (John) Lucente of Sidney, Matt (Michelle) Ahrens of Cookeville, TN, and Nick (Amy) Ahrens of Sidney, three siblings: Mary Moran, Denis (Polly) Simon, and Doris (George Williams) Subler all of Versailles, five grandchildren: Kaitlyn (Josh) Partin, Austin (Hannah) Ahrens, Brandon (fiancé Cheyenne) Ahrens,  Ryan (fiancé Jadyn ) Ahrens, and William Gage Ferguson, and two great-grandchildren, Deacon Austin Ahrens, and Harrison Grant Partin. She was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Simon, and brother-in-law, John Moran.

Marty and Denny moved to Cookeville, TN in 1978 where they raised their three children and owned and operated D&M Trucking. Marty loved Cookeville and enjoyed watching her kids in band and sports. Spending weekends at Center Hill Lake on their boat was where you could find her. Moving back to Ohio, she worked again with Denny at Ahrens Custom Builders. She spent her time watching her kids, and later grandkids. Marty could always make time for her family, especially her grandkids. She loved her family with all her heart. She enjoyed working with floral arrangements, listening to country music, and her favorite pastimes including being a die-hard Cincinnati Bengals fan, and watching NASCAR. She was also an avid reader. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

In keeping with Marty’s wishes, her body was donated to The Ohio State University hoping that her contribution can help provide insight for treating Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, which she suffered from for the past five years.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 12:30 PM at Connection Point Church of God, 1510 Campbell Rd, Sidney, OH 45365, with Pastor Janine Ellis officiating. Friends may visit on Saturday from 11 AM until the time of service.
