Mark Smith Obituary

Mark Russell Smith, age 69 of Sidney, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on November 8, 2024, at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County in Troy, Ohio, after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Mark leaves behind the love of his life, Mary, his wife of 50 years; his three children, Meggan (Rick) Sutherland, of Austintown, Ohio, Michael (Heather) Smith, of Andover, Ohio, and Melissa (Chuck) Anthony, of Ashtabula, Ohio; his seven grandchildren, Sierra, Kyler, Magda, Myranda, Camilla, Shelby, and Magnus; his great-granddaughter, Jaidyn; his sister Charlene (Jim) Woodworth, of Caldwell, Ohio; and his mother-in-law, Helen Braun, of Powell, Ohio.

Mark was born March 13, 1955, in Painesville, Ohio, to Charles and Dorothy C. Smith, who both preceded him in death, as did his brother, Curtis Smith.

Mark’s interests included his 1986 Corvette, trivia, and keeping up with technology. He pursued higher education, completing his Bachelor of Engineering from Miami University with honors. In 2020, Mark retired from Crane Pumps in Piqua, Ohio, after nearly 20 years of service.

Since his retirement, Mark worked as a senior design engineer for his son’s company, Metal Fusion.

Mark faithfully served as a United Methodist throughout his lifetime. Mark’s everyday journey with friends and family was his greatest way of faithfully serving the Lord. Mark’s faith has led him down many different paths, from being a founder of Dorset Christian School, to accompanying students on mission trips across the U.S., and significantly serving in the Emmaus community.
