Marian Smith-Corsiglia Obituary

Marian Sharp Smith Corsiglia passed away on March 8, 2022 in her daughter Elizabeth's home in Newburyport, MA after a 3-year battle with cancer.

Marian was born on June 13, 1933 in Sidney, Ohio to Mabel Stephenson Sharp and Harold McDonald Sharp.

Marian had two sisters, Jean Sharp Custenborder and Miriam Sharp.

Marian went to Sidney High School. She was the founder and editor of the school's yearbook, The Yellow Jacket. She graduated in 1951 and went on to attend Ohio Wesleyan University, where she graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Home Economics and Child Development in 1955. She was very active in Delta Gamma, Mortar Board and Pi Delta Epsilon. Marian attended Ohio State University and completed her Master's Degree on June 9, 1956.

On June 10, 1956 she married her High School sweetheart, Lt. Gerald Wayne Smith. Marian and Jerry had 3 children, Mark, Miriam, and Elizabeth. Marian and Jerry moved 10 times with the Air Force, living in many exciting places including the Azores, Portugal, Hawaii, Guam, California and Tacoma, Washington. Marian was very busy while raising her children and very involved in Jerry's military career.

She taught elementary school and directed both adult and children's choir in California and Hawaii, as well as being the pianist and organist. Marian loved flowers and while in Hawaii took courses in Ikebana, a style of arranging flowers, and this influenced her lifelong enjoyment of flowers. Marian was a big part of her children's swimming careers and became a National and Collegiate timer.

In 1979 Marian created a new career path for herself developing curriculum for quality assurance for Boeing Aircraft and Deloitte. She married Robert Corsiglia on August 26, 1995. Marian and Bob moved to Bear Creek in Murrieta, California in 1998. Marian had many beloved friends in Bear Creek and enjoyed golf, choir, PEO, book club, bocce, bowling, and bridge (her favorite). She was actively involved in Murrieta United Methodist Church and Choir. She loved going to plays and musicals. Marian loved to entertain and was happy to sit down and play the piano for her friends.

Marian was preceded in death by her sisters, her son Mark, and her husband Bob.

Four great-granddaughters, six grandchildren and her two daughters survive her: Miriam Greenwood of Sanger, CA (husband, Mark, and children Ashley Greenwood; Erinn White; Zachary Greenwood and Emily Stiling) and Elizabeth Brugger of Newburyport, MA (husband, James and children Blythe and Luke Brugger).

Marian was blessed to have a wonderful family and many friends. She was a strong and courageous woman. She loved her family and she loved her Bear Creek family as well. She will be missed and remembered with love.
