LOUANNE (BLAKE) MENTGES, STOCKSTILL, 90, of Sidney passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 11:04 PM at Fair Haven Shelby County Home. She was born on January 24, 1932 in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of the late Dorothy (Kah) Blake and the late Hamlin (Margaret) Blake. On August 29, 1954 Louanne married Dr. William F. Mentges. They enjoyed 50 wonderful years of marriage until his death on July 5, 2003. Louanne then married Dr. James T. Stockstill February 2006, who preceded her in death July 28, 2013.
She is survived by two children, Susan (Tom) Katenkamp of Cincinnati and Bill (Angie) Mentges of Sidney and three grandchildren, Hayley (Esteban) Gonzalez, Dylan (Ashley) Whiteside and Shelbie Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Blake Whiteside and Genevieve Whiteside and three siblings, Janet Cox of Columbus, Marj (Tom) Dunnavant of Sidney and Susan (Steve) Molnar of Columbus. Louanne was preceded in death by daughter, Anne (Mentges) Whiteside.
Louanne was first and foremost a devoted and beloved wife, mother and sister. She worked at Nationwide in Columbus to help put her husband Bill through medical school at Ohio State University. Later she helped him run the business end of his company Sidney Anesthesia Inc. which provided all the anesthesia staff and services to Wilson Memorial Hospital. She was very involved volunteering and serving in leadership with many organizations and charities, and especially her former church St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Sidney, Ohio where she served as the president of the church council. She currently was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Troy.
Louanne attended Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio for one year on a Methodist scholarship where she maintained a 4.0 grade point average. She went back to college in her mid 40's at Edison State Community College and acquired her Associates degree with a 4.0 GPA. She was a proud alum of Sidney High School's Class of 1949 and greatly enjoyed attending their class reunions and keeping up with her classmates.
She really treasured her close group of girlfriends that knew each other since elementary school. They grew up together, got married together, raised their families together and lost spouses together. Most of all they had fun and laughed a lot together. Louanne loved to play bridge as often as she could and her club "the old Biddies" enjoyed wearing their matching t-shirts and having boisterous get-togethers at the local Perkins.
Louanne loved traveling, hosting parties, cooking, gardening and making a beautiful home for her family and friends. She however was best known by those who knew and loved her as an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeye football team.
