Lloyd V. Cromes

LLOYD V. CROMES, 97, 1147 Westwood Dr. passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 7:10 P.M. at Dorothy Love Retirement Community. He was born on August 24, 1918 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Ralph V. and Carrie (Short) Cromes.

On October 20, 1940 Lloyd married Betty Jane Heck who preceded him in death July 17, 2004. He is survived by one son, Ralph E. Cromes and  wife Jo Ann of Sidney, one daughter, Sondra Fulton of Austin, TX., one brother, Norris Cromes of Sidney, four grandchildren, Lori Hargis, Cindy Grant, Mara and Kaleb Hecht,  9 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Kim Hewitt and Beth Fulton.

Mr. Cromes was a 1937 graduate of Sidney High School and a member of the football team and the basketball team which went undefeated as MVL Champs his senior year. Following graduation he served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1940 to 1943.

Lloyd's father started Cromes Funeral Home; still a family owned and operated business, in 1937. In 1943 Lloyd started working at the funeral home. He graduated from the Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1947 along with his brother Norris. Together, the two brothers would work for their father and continue the tradition of the funeral home after his passing. After Lloyd and Norris retired the business was continued by their sons, Ralph and Gary Cromes.

Lloyd was a very active member of the community even into his later years. He was a life member of Sidney American Legion Post 217 and Moose Lodge #568, past president of FOE # 1403, life member of Elks Lodge #786, Temperance Lodge #73 F&AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite -Royal Arch Mason - Sidney Council #70 Commandery #46, Antioch Shrine in Dayton, life member of Disabled Veterans #48, Noon Kiwanis, Hi Twelve and former member of Jutis Club. He attended the Sidney First United Methodist Church.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 2 P.M. at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave, Sidney, with Rev. Dr. David Chivington and Rev. Joe F. Pumphrey officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 A.M. until the hour of service. There will be a service conducted by Sidney American Legion Post 217 at 1:45 P.M. prior to the funeral service.
