Licia M “Babe” Humphrey died peacefully in Sidney, Ohio at 4:10 AM on Saturday, July 3, 2021 in the presence of family. She was 99 years old. Born January 16, 1922 in Milan, Italy she was the daughter of Romeo and Riva Maria Colombo . In 1946 she met the love of her life– Robert Humphrey–an American GI stationed with the US Army Occupation Forces in Italy. The two married in 1948 and traveled to America together shortly thereafter. They were married for 67 years at the time of his death in 2015.
Most of her life was spent in St. Clairsville, Ohio where she was a homemaker and part-time seamstress. She made and altered countless dresses and gowns for many homecomings, proms, weddings, and other special events and many of her clients became lifelong friends. She was a devoted wife and tireless mother to her son and all the other neighborhood kids. She enjoyed guests in her home and usually that meant eating a home-cooked meal before leaving. She was a long-standing member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and her faith and family were always paramount in her daily life.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert, a brother Aldo and a sister Valeria –both of Italy. She is survived by her son Dr. Michael (Lori) Humphrey and two grandsons– Ian and Jaden– all of Sidney, Ohio.
She was a daily presence in the lives of her family and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 19 at 7 PM at Cromes-Edwards funeral home, 302 South Main Ave., Sidney, OH. Family will receive friends from 5 PM until the hour of service.
