Larry Slagle Obituary

LARRY JOE SLAGLE, age 78 of Sidney, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023. He was born on March 15, 1944, in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late John D. and Carolyn E. (Ike) Slagle. He was married to Marilyn Kay (Drake) who preceded him in death May 21, 1993.

He is survived by three children: Gayle L. Horton of Dayton, Gregory S. Slagle of Columbus, and Grant A. (Rachel) Slagle of Indianapolis, IN, two grandchildren: Abigayle Lynette (Bill) Wilbanks, and Andrew (Taylor Kronenberger) Horton, brother, David (Donna) Slagle of Anna, and sisters: Carol Ann Slagle, and Jayne (Michael) Knouff both of Sidney. 

Mr. Slagle served his country as a Vietnam War Veteran in the US Army from 1965 to 1967. He taught at the Apollo Career Center in Lima, and prior to his retirement, worked as the Maintenance Director. During his time at Apollo, he served as an FFA Advisor. 

Larry helped write the State curriculum for Ag Mechanics, and proficiency exams for Ag Mechanics at Ohio State University. He was on the Advisory Board for ATI for the Mechanics Program. He was chosen to go to John Deere Service with OSU where he served as head of the mechanics program. He went to Kubota School with OSU as well. He taught Adult Education in small engines and hydraulics and helped run State Tractor Troubleshooting contests for seven years.

Larry loved welding and designing things, and he absolutely loved farming. He was a member of Sidney Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Post 217, and New Hope United Methodist Church.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 5:00 PM at New Hope United Methodist Church, 8985 W. Mason Rd. in Sidney, with Pastor Rob Berryman officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 3 to 5 PM. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
