Katherine Ann (Schmidt) Castle

KATHERINE ANN (SCHMIDT) CASTLE, 84, of Mooresville, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 9:32 AM at Novant Health Medical Center in Huntersville, North Carolina. She was born on June 18, 1939 in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of the late Carl and Helen (Gibbs) Schmidt. On August 9, 1958, Katherine married Harry Lee Castle Jr., who preceded her in death December 10, 2014.

Beginning in 1970, Katherine and Lee began a hobby that would last decades. They found happiness and friendship camping at Rustic Haven on Grand Lake St. Mary's. They enjoyed fireside chats and lifelong friendships made there through 2014.

In late August of 2020 Katherine left her home in Sidney to live with her daughter, Tanya and son-in-law Jonathan Ochenas in Mooresville, North Carolina. There she enjoyed visiting NASCAR Museums, the Billy Graham Library and Mount Airy, the town Mayberry was based on from the television series The Andy Griffith Show. She loved going to football games to see her grandchild march in The Pride in Motion Marching Band from Mooresville High School. Katherine achieved her goal of seeing her grandchild graduate from high school this past spring.

She is survived by daughter, Tanya (Jonathan) Ochenas of Mooresville, North Carolina, one grandchild and brother, Russell Schmidt of Sidney, Ohio. Katherine was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas William Schmidt.

Mrs. Castle retired in 2000 after 12 years working as an assembly line worker for Stolle Corporation. She was a former member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

Visiting hours will be observed on Monday, November 13 from 11 a.m. thru 1 p.m with services to follow, at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave Sidney.
