Joyce Jones

Joyce Jones, age 81 of Sidney, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 9:20 AM at Ayden Healthcare of Belle Springs in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born on June 3, 1943, in Sidney, the daughter of Gerald and Shirley (Boyer) Harman.

Joyce is survived by her loving family, daughters Jenny Jones of Sidney and Shelly (Ed) Wisner of Bellefontaine, grandchildren Brett (Angela) Wisner of Louisville, Kentucky, CPT. Aaron Wisner of the United States Army, stationed at Fort Moore, Columbus, Georgia and great granddaughter Kylie Rose Wisner.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, her parents and a brother John Harman.

Joyce graduated from nursing school at Miami Valley Hospital in 1964. She married Jerry on May 9, 1965. They settled in Sidney in 1972.  Joyce worked as an RN throughout her career at Miami Valley Hospital, Detmer Hospital, Dr. Ned Smith’s office, Upper Valley Hospital and retired from Wilson Memorial. She and Jerry traveled to all of Jenny and Shelly’s sporting events, from childhood and into college.

Joyce’s grandsons were very important to her.  Once she retired, she and Jenny went to all the boys’ basketball and soccer games in middle school and high school.  She was thrilled to meet and visit with her great-granddaughter, Kylie Rose, a couple times after she was born in March of 2024.

Joyce loved to play golf, played in several leagues, and played as often as she could.  She played Bridge with a couple card groups over many years.  She also loved the Ohio State Buckeyes!!  She and Jenny attended many home and away football games.  Joyce always had either college basketball or football on tv, or the Cincinnati Reds.

Throughout her retirement, Joyce volunteered her time in numerous ways.  She made 2,000 hospice quilts and was part of the St. John’s Lutheran Church sewing group.  She sang in the choir at church for decades, and for a short time while attending St. Jacob’s Church in Anna.  Joyce helped get  Compassionate Care of Shelby County (free health clinic) up and running and volunteered her time for there for several years.  She then began to volunteer at Agape Distribution, also for several years.  She went on numerous trips with the Sidney Vets to DC group as a chaperone.  Joyce worked for The Spot Catering for around 28 years.  All these things were “something to do,” as mom never wanted to just be sitting idle.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 120 W. Water St. Sidney, Ohio with Rev. Steve Edmiston officiating.
