Joy Baker Obituary

Joy A Baker, 92, passed away on March 27th after a long battle with dementia at Hospice of North West, Ohio.

Joy spent most of her happy years in Sidney Ohio. She was born in Maplewood, Ohio on February 17, 1933, to Walter (Cap) Stengel and Grace Fogt Stengel.

She attended Sidney High School. She married Bill E Baker in Jan 5,1949 and they had two children, Bruce E Baker and Daniel K Baker.

Joy moved to Temperance, Michigan in July of 2018 to be nearer to her son Dan, then on to Oregon, Ohio where she spent the rest of her life.

Joy loved her roses, which she grew and gave to friends and family whenever they were sick or for special occasions.

She was a fierce competitor and loved to bowl throughout the 1960’s-70s, and then she turned her attention to golf. She was an avid and accomplished golfer and she was very proud of her five “hole in one’s” record.

Joy was a meticulous craft maker and excelled at anything she put her mind to.

She and her husband Bill loved to square dance and became quite good at it. Bill predeceased her in 1991, as did her brothers, Howard Stengel and Ralph Stengel. Her older sister and closest friend, Evelyn Apple also predeceased Joy in 2017.

Joy and Evelyn did everything together, and two sisters were never closer than Joy and Evelyn!

Joy met Bill Seiburg, her companion and fiancé in 1992.  Bill introduced her to travel, music and antique cars.  They had many adventures together until he passed.

Her sons Bruce E Baker, of Middlebury, VT (and daughter in law Nancie Dunn), and Daniel K, Baker of Erie, MI (and son in Law Jeff Kast) survive Joy. She has two grandsons Patrick Dunn-Baker of Encinitas, CA, and Quincy Michael Dunn-Baker of Glen Spey, NY. Two great granddaughters Finley and Eloise, both of Encinitas, CA

Memorial Viewing will be at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home in Sidney Wednesday, April 2nd from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a funeral service at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home on April 3rd at 11:00 AM.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Pearl Cemetery in Swanders, where she will be buried beside her husband Bill.
