JOHN STEPHEN WHITTENBERGER, 89 of Sidney, passed away Monday, September 8, 2025, at 3:56 PM at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 21, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Stephen Emery and Hazel V. (Campbell) Whittenberger. On March 14, 1959, he married Rosalie (Smith) who preceded him in death March 30, 2009.
He is survived by four children: Stephen (Lori) Whittenberger Jr., Lisa Whittenberger both of Sidney, Aaron Whittenberger of Independence, KY, and Kendra (James) Eikenberry of Ft. Mill, SC, one sister, Janet (Mike) Sepela of Middletown, OH, seven grandchildren: Brian Whittenberger, Matthew Eikenberry, Christopher Whittenberger, Paul Whittenberger, Kayla (Hannah) Eikenberry Ureste, CJ Whittenberger, and Macie Eikenberry, one great-grandson, Lucas Eikenberry, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kimberly Whittenberger.
John was a 1954 graduate of Northridge High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy where he served his country from 1954 to 1962. After his time in the service, he furthered his education earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton and his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Earlham College in Richmond, IN. His education led him to a career at Baumfolder Corporation in Sidney where he retired as an electrical engineer.
John was a member of Sidney First Methodist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, tennis, and traveling. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Sidney First Methodist Church with Pastors Lee Carlson and Eileen Hix officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
