JOHN RUSSELL WALTER, age 72 of Kettering, formerly of Sidney, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 22, 2023, in a flash flood in Kane County Utah. He was born on August 20, 1950, in Archbold, Ohio the son of the late Henry and Margaret (Gerken) Walter.
John grew up on Wilson Street in Archbold, and the family moved to Sidney when John was a freshman in high school. On January 25, 1980, he married Marcella (Ridge) who preceded him in death April 5, 2023.
He is survived by two children, Christopher Walter of Sidney, and Corey (Dewey) Messer of Kettering, four siblings; Maggie (Kenneth) Nagel, Mary Beth (William) Starrett, Paul (Joellen) Walter, and Phil (Nancy) Walter, nine grandchildren; Alivia, Jonah, Elijah, Remington, Jaxon, Taylor, Reese, Travis, and Kaleb, and six great-grandchildren; Jasia, Malachi, Kamden, RJ, Cash, and Aria. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Jessica, and Stacey Walter.
Mr. Walter was a Sidney High School Graduate. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He retired from Honda Anna Engine Plant as a machinist in the engineering department.
John was deeply rooted in his faith. His walk with God allowed him to be a light and ray of hope for many people. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 5, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron York officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens in Sidney. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
