JOHN F. HECKLER III, 85, of Sidney died Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 6:55 PM at his residence. He was born on January 30, 1937 in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late John and Ruth (Rilling) Heckler Jr. On November 18, 1977, John married the former Patricia (Warren) Slyh, who survives with their six children.
He is survived by six children, Laurie (David) Griffin, Lisa (Jeff) Snyder, Jeff (Sandra) Heckler, Jim Heckler, Sheila (Ric) Robinson and John (Ann) Slyh; seventeen grandchildren, Ryan Griffin, Danny (Liane) Griffin, Michael Griffin, Jason (Samantha) Snyder, Justin (Ashley) Snyder, Chad (Roseanna) Heckler, Rachel Heckler, Megan Heckler, Katie (Nick) Askren, Eric Robinson, Jack Slyh, Joey Slyh, Lauren Slyh, Shawn (Debbie) Foster, Shanda (Brian) Green, Kasey (Brian) Schwartz and Kari (C.C.) Miller; fourteen great grandchildren, Jackson Snyder, Connor Snyder, Lila Snyder, Colin Jack Heckler, Seth Foster, Wyatt Foster, Morgan Carey, Ella Schwartz, Andrew Schwartz, Sydney Schwartz, Lyric Miller, Lillian Miller, Ethan Irvine and Jacob Irvine and sister, Kathy Whited of Urbana. John was preceded in death by his first wife Carol McKnight.
Mr. Heckler retired after thirty years working for Ohio Department of Transportation as a Highway Design Engineer. John was a coach and referee for over 25 years. He was inducted into the IUTIS Club Hall of Fame and was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 568. John enjoyed church softball, golf and bowling in his spare time. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church since 1937.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday April 5,2022 at 10:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Steve Edmiston officiating. Burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney, Ohio at a later date. Friends may visit Monday, April 4, 2022 from 4 PM until 7 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave Sidney.
