Jan grew up in Dayton and graduated from Fairborn High School in 1962. After graduation she worked at Liberal Foods and was a telephone operator at Ohio Bell. During this time, she lived at the Loretta in downtown Dayton and made many lifelong friends.
After marrying Jerry and moving to Sidney, Jan experienced her greatest joys and accomplishments in her roles as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As a mother, Jan taught her children the importance of having unwavering faith in the Heavenly Father. She was a phenomenal seamstress and even customized her daughter Julie’s wedding gown. Jan lovingly created her children’s custom-made Halloween costumes, prepared amazing foods including her infamous BBQ spareribs, homemade cinnamon rolls and custom birthday cakes. She made every holiday special and full of love. Years ago, Jan was very involved in the Sidney High School Football Moms group and appreciated the friendships she made there, while also supporting her sons’ involvement on the football team. In addition, she spent countless hours supporting Jerry’s commitment to growing the family business, Sidney Landscape Service, Inc. As a child and young adult, she was a member of Our Lady of Rosary Catholic Church in Dayton, Ohio. She later became a devout member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney.
For the last 1 1/2 years Jan resided at The Landings of Sidney, where she made many friends and enjoyed entertaining her friends and family. Despite having limited vision, she never missed listening to an Ohio State football game and cheering on the Buckeyes.
Jan will be missed by many. She was known for her attentiveness, patience, and ability to make everyone feel like they were the most important people in the world. The family is very thankful to the staff at The Landings and Ohio Hospice of Miami County for their thoughtful, compassionate and loving care, which was Jan’s approach towards everyone throughout her life. The family is also grateful for the love and support of the “Giggle Gang”, who provided her unwavering friendship and laughter, ensuring that she had the best quality of life possible, especially after the passing of her beloved husband and son.
