JAMES THEODORE SWIGER, 96 of Wapakoneta formerly of Sidney, passed away Friday, February 6, 2026, at 3:35 AM at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on February 27, 1929, in Port Jefferson, Ohio, the son of the late Theodore and Ethel (Parke) Swiger. On August 15, 1953, he married Rozella (Layman) who preceded him in death October 10, 2019.
Jim is survived by three children: Tom (Rebekah Fairchild) Swiger of Dayton, Julie (Eric) Tobias of Wapakoneta, and Mark (Denise) Swiger of New Bremen, eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Robert and JoAnne Swiger.
Jim served his country in the US Army. He worked as a tow motor operator for Consolidated Metco in Sidney and was a volunteer firefighter for civil defense. He was a member of Sidney First Methodist Church and Sidney American Legion Post 217.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horses, feeding birds and squirrels, and dabbling in woodworking. He was very close to his dog, Sadie, and above all, he loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Jim will be held Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Rev Eileen Hix officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery in Swanders. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
