JAMES WILLARD SHAFFER SR. the love of Carol Blevins Shaffer's life passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 1:18 PM at Treasure Coast Hospice in Ft. Pierce, FL. He was born on January 14th 1946 to L. Cecil Shaffer and Naomi Poling Shaffer. His parents preceded him in death.

Jim and Carol have 3 children, James Jr. (Hope) Shaffer of Huber Heights, Ohio, Dina (Todd) McKee, of Sidney, Ohio and April (Katlin) Clay of Port St. Lucie, Florida. They have 8 grandchildren, Aaron (Jennifer) McKee, Jacob (Lauren) Shaffer, Kayleigh (Dillon) Hounshell, Joshua (Breanna) Shaffer, Damian (Amaris) Bishop, Xavier Clay, Korin Clay and Elizabeth Clay. He also had 6 great grandchildren, Azaiah Shaffer, Ellawyn McKee, Waverly McKee, Avaleigh Hounshell, Ezra Shaffer, one to be born in June 2021 and one to be born in October 2021. Jim had 4 sisters and 2 brothers, Susan (Roger) Houser of Groesbeck, TX, William Gilbert of Middletown, OH, Mary (Terry) Mullins of Middletown, OH, Aleesia (Barry) Rahe of Chillicothe, OH, Carliena Smallwood of Chillicothe, OH and Todd Shaffer of Chillicothe, OH.

He liked spending time with his in-laws, Leo (Sonja) Blevins, Don (Kuiok) Blevins, Patricia Brogan and Will Blevins.  In-laws, Chester Blevins, Eugene Blevins, Linda (Dan) Griffith and William Brogan preceded him in death. He also had numerous nieces and nephews he loved.

Jim excelled in basketball at Sidney High School as a varsity player.  He continued playing basketball with his buddies on Saturdays in the winter till he was 40 years old. He and his buddies would rent a gym. Hardin, Plattsville or the Salvation Army were some of the places they played basketball.

Jim, a left handed pitcher and switch hitter, played tournament softball almost every weekend in the summer.  He thought of his teammates as brothers.

Jim acquired his truck driving skills at Sidney Bottling Company.  Frantz Brothers hired him as a yard driver.  He moved up quickly.

In the 70s, Jim started Sidney Communications in the basement of his home.  He sold CB radios and accessories.  He and Carol would go to jamborees and sell the radios.

In 1986, they purchased Turtle Creek Campground.  He would ride his 12 speed bicycle all over the campground.

In 1991, they purchased Chevy's/Vespa House.  Jim was the CEO, CFO and Big Daddy.  He was mostly quiet but he brought Roy Asbury to his knees.

Jim retired as a Teamster in 2005.  He enjoyed spending the winter in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

Jim loved playing with his grandkids.  Getting them to laugh was something he strived for.  He would throw live goldfish in the pool so the kids could try to catch them.  He also enjoyed singing with his grandkids but he only danced with the girls.  He will be missed so very much.
