HERTHA MARIE KNELL STRELOW VICE, 90, of Sidney, Ohio passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 8:15 A.M. at Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney. She was born on December 1, 1934 in Bronx, New York, the daughter of the late William C. and Marie (Wernich) Knell.
Hertha is survived by four children, David Charles (Teisha) Strelow, Jane Marie (Marla) Knell, Barbara Ann (Lyall) Clark, and John Mark (Melanie) Strelow; five grandchildren, Thomas Strelow, Michaela (Joshua) Dub, Hope (Matt) Young, Hannah (Ryan) Stark, and Eliana Strelow; four great-grandchildren, Micah and Eden Young, and Winter and Dempsey Stark.
Also surviving are her nieces, Victoria Garcia and Aubriana Knell; and nephews, Enrique and Carlos Knell. Hertha also has three cousins living in Germany.
Hertha is preceded in death by infant son, Paul William Strelow; husbands, Mark Strelow and Ronald Vice; and her brother, William Knell.
Hertha received her Associated Arts Degree at Concordia College in Bronxville, New York 1961 and her bachelor’s degree in education at Concordia University, River Forest 1963.
Hertha was employed by the New York Telephone Company in New York City 1953-1959. Taught elementary schools in the Lutheran Christian Schools in Hampton Virginia 1962-1963 and in Rego Park, New York 1963-1964. Taught Kindergarten at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Lexington, Kentucky from 1972-1974. Retired Administrative Assistant from the New Albany School Corporation, New Albany, Indiana 1979-1995. Retired secretary/treasurer of the Marnell Group in Cincinnati, Ohio 1995-2002.
Hertha was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sidney, Ohio. She was a lifelong member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. Hertha attended these churches while either living in or visiting New York, Ohio, Virginia, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, New Mexico, Minnesota, Tennessee and Alabama.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at 10 A.M. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sidney with Rev. Art Casci officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, and at the church on Wednesday from 9 A.M. until the service.
