Helen Aileen (Elsass) Burden

HELEN AILEEN BURDEN, 88 of Sidney, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 12:12 AM at Fair Haven Shelby County Home. She was born on January 25, 1937, in Anna, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harry and Ava Dell (Bagford) Elsass. On August 6, 1962, she married Carl Burden who preceded her in death January 1, 1990.

She is survived by three children: Carla (Steven) Schiffke, Tim (Jill) Burden both of Sidney, and Ken (Laura) Burden of Anna, eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Chris) Long, Nicholas (Meagan) Scheuing, Bradley Burden, Evan Burden, Katelyn Burden, Samantha (Lucas) Clark, Matthew (Gabriel) Burden, and David Burden, three great-grandchildren: Faith Long, Lydia Grilliot, and Jasper Clark, sisters-in-law: Anita Burden, Bernie Burden, Linda Jacomet, and Rose Briani-Burden. She was preceded in death by brother, Lee Elsass, sister-in-law, Barbara Elsass, and stepson, Dave Burden.

Helen was a graduate of Anna High School class of 1955. She continued her education at St. Rita’s in Lima where she earned her degree in nursing in 1957. 

Helen worked as a nurse for Fair Haven prior to her retirement in 2004. She was a member of the Anna United Methodist Church. She enjoyed watching television in her spare time and was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds. Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.

Funeral Services for Helen will be held Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Rev Eileen Hix officiating. Burial will follow at Pearl Cemetery in Swanders. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM.
