HAZEL LOUISE HANEY, 84, of Springfield, formerly of Sidney, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 9:45 AM at Springfield Regional Medical Center. She was born on March 14, 1940, in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Margaret I. (Maloon) Hahn.
She first married Willis Kah who preceded her in death. She married Edward Haney who also preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters: Marika (Jim) Greene of Springfield, OH, and Mercedes (Aaron) Boetticher of Columbus, OH, five grandchildren: Morgan, Kevin, Bradley, Christopher, and Kristen, and five great-grandchildren: Xander, Calliope, Aveline, William, and Amelia.
Hazel was a graduate of Sidney High School class of 1958. She earned her bachelor's degree in education from Black Hills State University and then went on to earn a degree in medical records from the University of Tennessee through Baptist Memorial Hospital. She spent most of her career at Children's Hospital, serving for over 30 years prior to her retirement.
Hazel was of the Lutheran faith. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years and got the opportunity to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery. She was a lover of dogs and cats, lighthouses, and was an avid Elvis Presley fan.
A Memorial Service for Hazel will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Edmiston officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
