Genevieve Ruth Motsinger, 98, of Sidney, passed away at 2:15 A.M. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at her residence. She was born on November 22, 1927, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late George and Elva Kopp.
On June 19, 1948, she married Walter C. Motsinger Jr., who preceded her in death, along with her seven siblings. She is survived by her two children, Joyce Motsinger of Sidney and Lynnette (Gary) Horn of Akron, Ohio. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Cheyann (Sean) Pennington, and her great-granddaughter, Aurora Smith.
Genevieve was a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. A 1946 graduate of Sidney High School, Genevieve worked for 40 years at Copeland Corporation as an assembler and inspector. She also served as recording secretary of the local IUE union, was an executive board member of the worker’s union IUE, AFI, CIO. She was also a workers’ compensation representative and was past president of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Genevieve also gave her time to the Democratic Women of Shelby County and served on the board of the Sidney Salvation Army. When Genevieve wasn’t serving her community, she loved gardening, birdwatching, and above all, spending time with her family.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 1 P.M. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Pastor James Oates officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11 A.M. until the time of service. Contributions may be made to SCARF in memory of Genevieve. Condolences may be expressed to the family at (www.cromesfh.com).
