Frank Eugene Ackerman

Frank E. Ackerman, of Sidney died on January 21 at the age of 81 after a long illness.  He was born in Savannah, GA. to Frank W. and Mildred (Haines) Ackerman. He was raised in Vandalia, where he graduated from Butler High School with the class of 1961. 

With a genius for all things mechanical, Frank worked for the Dayton Cash Register Company for many years in their service department.  He enjoyed talking to his clients and made friends wherever he went, always prepared with a never-ending supply of jokes.  He charmed many with the twinkle in his eye and the curl of his lip after sharing a joke.  The love of his life - cars -  began one summer when he was in high school and his parents bought him a “junker” car and Frank and some friends spent months taking it apart and fixing it.  That led to his ownership of countless vintage and other vehicles which he restored and maintained, and he was always happy to help his family and friends who had car trouble or were in need of a car. Frank was a member of the Masonic Lodge #743 in Vandalia, OH.

In 2010, Frank married Camilla Anderson Ackerman and they began immediately celebrating monthly anniversaries.  They enjoyed serving together in Hardin Community Church and consistently shared a special devotion time together on their back porch.  They belonged to The Ford V8 Club, and the Dayton Buckeye Model A Ford Club and especially enjoyed the pleasure of taking long trips with friends in their antique cars. They took great satisfaction in completing several mission trips, building churches in u and Honduras.

Together they enjoyed many special times with family, including frequent meals with family members and larger family celebrations on the holidays. Frank loved using his helping hands with family members on their farm and preparing for family events by spinning around the yard on his golf cart.

Frank is survived by his wife Camilla and his children, Kathleen (Robert) Bowers and Michael Ackerman of TN, his grandchildren Joshua and Tessa Bowers, Asher Deck, Hannah and Lauren Ackerman, and a great grandchild, Cecilia.  

Survivors also include his sister, Coralea Wennberg of NH, and his stepchildren Tonya Mack, Kurt Anderson, Dawn (Ken) Eley, Kerri (Mark) Lehmann, Kenton (Kay) Anderson, Nate (Julie) Anderson, Katy (Darryll) August, and Rocky (Lisa) Anderson.  

Funeral Services for Frank will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Hunsucker officiating and Masonic Ceremony performed by Sidney Temperance Lodge 73. Burial will follow at Dayton Memorial Park in Dayton, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
