Frances (Epperson) Rickey passed away quietly at her residence in Sidney on Thursday December 1, 2024 after a long illness. Franny was born to Martha Epperson in Barbourville, Kentucky on March 7, 1951. She eventually moved to Piqua, Ohio with her grandparents, Elliot and Martha Epperson, Sr.
Fran had two children born of a previous marriage, Robert E. Cruikshank, who passed away unexpectedly in 2013 and Angie L. (Cruikshank) Sanders who survives.
In 1994 she married James (Jim) Rickey of Sidney who survives. They shared 30 years of love with their friends and family and weathered many storms together.
There are three grandchildren, Preston Sanders and Daisy Barker, all of Port Jefferson and Bobby Cruikshank of Huber Heights, Ohio. Franny has one great-granddaughter, Leah Cruikshank
Ms. Rickey attended Piqua High School and Edison State College, and she became a drug and alcohol counselor in Miami and Shelby Counties,
working mostly with teens. She influenced many young people with her no-nonsense talk and kind understanding. Folks appreciated Franny’s eclectic personal style, and her down-to-earth demeanor.
Finally in 2000, Fran fulfilled a dream of becoming a licensed medical massage therapist. Clients raved about her ability to make them feel better. At the end of her career, she set up her studio in her house. Sessions began with a massage and ended with a cup of coffee and some counseling on the front porch.
She will be missed. By all.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, 4:00-6:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.cromesfh.com
