Elizabeth "Betty" Baker Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Baker age 91 of Sidney passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2024, at 5:04 AM at Fair Haven Shelby County Home. She was born the daughter of Paul and Bessie (Dalzell) Talbott on December 27, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan. Betty is survived by her loving family, husband Paul Baker, children Michael (Sandra) Matrangos and Christal (Paul) Robichaud, step-children Jerry (Debra) Baker and Julie (Charles Stockton) Micali, grandchildren Scott (Christine) Matrangos, Erin (Kevin) Moore, Adam (Sarah) Robichaud and Rachel (Gabe) Hayden, step-grandchildren Joey Baker, Hannah Baker, Anthony Micali, Sam Micali, and Gabriel (Tracey) Dobkin, great-grandchildren Tyler, Paul, Keegan, Kenzlie, Samantha, Max, Alex, and Lorelei, step-great-grandchildren Evelyn, Victor, Zach, and Ashley, great-great-grandchildren Malakai, and a sister Beverly Worpell. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Thomas Matrangos, and her siblings Robert, Marilyn, and Paul.

Throughout her life, she was known for her strength, dedication, and great intelligence.

Betty worked her way up from the secretarial pool to become a powerful businesswoman, retiring as a prominent executive at Chrysler. She was responsible for evaluating and acquiring property for dealerships across the country, demonstrating her sharp business acumen and leadership.

Betty's heart was always tied to her community. She was deeply involved with St. John's Thrift Shop, a charity that helped support gas, food, and other essential needs for those less fortunate. She volunteered there for many years, and even when she could no longer work in person, she continued repairing donated jewelry and ensured that the nicest pieces were professionally appraised. Her devotion to helping others will always be remembered.

Betty also contributed greatly as a longtime member and officer in the Women's Auxiliary at the American Legion, where she served as the historian for many years.

Betty had a lifelong love for baking, often making special cakes in the shapes of animals for her kids and grandkids during family celebrations. Her pies, especially her rhubarb and old-fashioned cream, were always the first to go at Legion events. She even recreated the beloved Spot pie, much to everyone's delight.

Her love for animals was profound and extended well beyond the strays her daughter brought home. Betty's kindness and compassion for animals were a testament to her gentle nature.

In addition to her intelligence and sharp wit, Betty loved playing games around the table with family and friends, especially cards. She belonged to a women's group that regularly played Pinnacle, a game she enjoyed for many years.

Betty was known for her dry humor, quick wit, and exceptional intelligence. Whether she was answering Jeopardy questions with ease or solving Wheel of Fortune puzzles with only a few letters showing, Betty's mind was sharp and always engaging. Her presence brought joy and laughter to every gathering.
