Earl Richard Berning

EARL RICHARD BERNING, 83 of Sidney, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 12:08 AM at Ohio Living Dorothy Love. He was born on June 26, 1942, in Sidney, Ohio, the son of the late Elmer and Ruth (Bruns) Berning.

He is survived by three daughters: Paula (Pat) Elliott of St Marys, Beth (Greg) Strunk of Anna, and Sandy (Bryan) Lykins of Hilliard, one son, Richard (Carol) Berning of Anna, two brothers: Lester (Karen) Berning, and Dennis Berning, four sisters: Carol Klinefelter, Theresa (Gordon) Newland, Brenda (Mike) Neikamp, and June (Pat) Geis, 11 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Mark Berning, three brothers: Sam, Vernon, and Alvin Berning, and one granddaughter, Stephanie Elliott.

Earl was a graduate of Botkins High School Class of 1963. He was a US Army veteran, serving his country in the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1966. Following his time in the service, he served an apprenticeship and became a certified electrician. He spent most of his career working for Area Energy & Electric in Sidney and retired after 38 years of faithful service.

Earl was a man who loved his family, especially his grandkids, and they will miss him dearly.

A Memorial Mass will be held for Earl on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Botkins with Earl’s grandson, Fr. Adam Berning officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home.
