Donald Lee Meyer

DONALD LEE MEYER, 95, of Houston passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 10:32 PM at Hospice of Miami County Inpatient Unit. He was born on July 19, 1928 in Anna, Ohio, the son of the late Raymond and Helen (Stiffel) Meyer. On April 23, 1951, Donald married Onda Pitsenbarger, who preceded him in death June 11, 2004.

He is survived by four children, Dwain Meyer of Tipp City, Dwight (Candace) Meyer of Sidney, David (Linda) Meyer of Pleasant Hill and Deena Meyer of Fort Loramie; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and sister, Virginia Carey of Columbus. Donald was preceded in death by daughter, Donna Saunders and three sisters, Miriam Gross, Martha Gephart and Judith Havanar.

Donald was Postmaster at Houston, Ohio retiring in 1983. He was also co-owner of the Pub Lounge and Restaurant in Sidney. He served 5 years in the regular Army including a year in Korea (1952-1953) with the 31st Infantry Right of the 7th Infantry Division as a Lieutenant. Donald was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart while serving in Combat. He was also awarded the Presidential Unit Citation as a member of Co. G, 31st Infantry Regiment and 7th Infantry Division.  He also served with the Ohio National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve where he attained the rank of Colonel before retiring in 1980.

He was a Life Member of the following: Chapter 48, Disabled American Veterans of Sidney, Post 355 American Legion of Fort Loramie, Chaney-Graef-Pitsenbarger Post 4874 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Piqua, Korean War Veterans Association and the Reserve Office Association.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday November 16, 2023 at 10 AM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home 302 S. Main Ave Sidney. Burial will follow at Miami Memorial Park in Covington, Ohio. Friends may visit Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Houston Fire Department or Ohio Hospice of Miami County in Donald’s memory.
