Don grew up on his families’ farm.  He was the youngest of three.  He graduated from Fairlawn High School in 1957.  He married Nancy on June 11, 1960.  They raised four wonderful sons together.

Don was a big part of Shelby County.  His main occupation was Farmer.  He was also a School Bus Driver for Fairlawn, a Fair Board Member for 38 years, and a Perry Township Trustee.  Don had a blackpowder gun shop on the farm.  He was a gunsmith and built muzzleloading rifles.

He had many hobbies.  He and Nancy always had horses.  They enjoyed pulling a wagon with a team of miniature horses in parades.  He plowed with Percheron horses.  He competed in and won many shooting contests at the National Muzzleloading Rifle Matches in Friendship, IN.  He dressed in buckskins and went to rendezvous. He was a member of numerous shooting clubs. He also enjoyed blacksmithing and woodworking.  He could build and fix anything.  He loved the fair.  He also loved it when the family would get together to do things like pulling taffy, making caramels, and pressing cider.

Don was a quiet and proud man.  He loved his family very much.  His way of saying that he loved you was when you were leaving the house after a visit he said with a smile “come back”.
