Dean A. Long

DEAN A. LONG, 81of Sidney, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 9:36 PM at his home. He was born on March 21, 1944, in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late Curtis and Gladys (Cramer) Long.

On May 26, 1972, Dean married Linda (Reineke) who survives along with three children: John Tonkin of McCartyville, Sherry (Tonkin) (David) Young of Sidney, and Jason (Janina) Long of Vandalia, seven grandchildren: Michael (Ashley) Everett, Matthew (Macey) Everett, Holly Tonkin, Samuel Young, Noah Young, Sebastian Long, and Leon Long, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Tonkin, and two brothers, David and Donald Long.

A proud patriot, Dean served his country with honor as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1967. His dedication to his fellow veterans continued throughout his life—he was a life member of both AMVETS and VFW, where he served as Past Commander. Dean also dedicated time to guiding young minds as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 97.

Dean had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether camping under the stars or casting a line in quiet waters, he found joy and peace in nature.

Funeral Services for Dean will be held Monday, June 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home with Deacon Phil Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Sidney. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
